Signs It’s Time to Try Something New

There’s nothing worse than feeling stagnant or that things could be going better then they are.

As someone who has sold ideas for most of my career, it’s literally been my job to find new opportunities for my clients to the point that it has become a reflex.

To help them find their next best moves from where they are today that will have the most impact getting to their next stage.

To encourage new approaches while doubling down on things that are already working.

By making sure to keep current clients engaged and valued because they keep your cash flow sustainable.

If your performance could be doing better or you aren’t even watching your data and have no idea, let’s explore some signals it may be time to try something new and evolve from where you are today.

Here are a few tell-tale signs it’s time to shake things up and try something new in your business. Here we go, they include:

Lack of alignment with goals

If your business no longer aligns with your long-term goals, values, or vision, it may be time to reassess your direction and change it.

Unable to Attract New Customers

This is either because you haven’t done the volume of effort necessary or because your offer/message doesn’t align with what you are going after. New messaging, approaches and targeting can help you to have a breakthrough if you have been getting the reps in, but aren’t seeing the results from it.

Not talking to or promoting your offers to enough people

Don’t forget a conversion rate of 5% is awesome. Are you getting in front of enough people? Direct sales and PPC can possibly help here. Relying on social media posts alone to grow your business isn’t enough. Combined with other channels and supporting tactics, it can help you get the ROI on your efforts.

Website traffic is down or you actually have no idea

Have you been monitoring traffic to your marketing channels and measuring KPIs against your goals? What is going on with your website? If you traffic is down it may be time to work on publishing more content and focusing on your SEO so your ideal customers can find you.

Loss of passion

If you’ve lost your motivation for what you’re doing and no longer feel excited about your business, it may be time to explore new ventures. Hiring a consultant or coach to help you get motivated again can also help you to get back on track if you aren’t done yet.

Disruption within your industry

Evolve or get left behind. New paradigms abound and we have to gain the skills and knowledge to operate with the times to be sustainable. Especially if your competitors are already working with speed and leveraging tech you aren’t.

Business model needs a revamp

Your products/services may need to overhaul if you can’t acquire new customers. If its become apparent that the road ahead is blocked, isn’t it time to find a new route? Consider offering new services or pursuing new verticals.

Changing market conditions

Shifts in market trends, consumer behaviour, or technological advancements may require you to adapt. A simple example, it’s now common to get a webinar reminder via a text if you actually want people to show up. How can you meet your customers where they are today to cut through the noise?

The good news is, you could be some quick wins away from leverage, impact and new opportunities. Here are some ideas to consider:
  • Reaching out to current and past customers to see how they are doing
  • Engage in online communities and go hang out where your prospects are
  • Add new connections on LinkedIn of your ideal target client
  • Start sending out your newsletter more consistently and come up with tactics to grow your list
  • Put together some social proof to help people researching you build trust on autopilot
  • Develop content that highlights your expertise that will really help out your ideal customers solve problems or will help them to realize their dreams/vision
  • Attend more live events and expand your networks on social channels by engaging on other peoples’ content
  • Change up your core messaging
  • Put together new offers
  • Write useful content from your expertise
  • Re-purpose and redistribute some of your past work to new audiences
  • Connect with new potential partners
  • Reach out to media and podcast outlets to be a guest if they serve your target audience

If you aren’t able to execute on any of the above, your mindset may need some work so before tackling consider:

  • Journaling
  • Going for a walk
  • Taking some deep breaths and meditating
  • Work with a consultant that can help you fast track and progress
  • Taking a vacation
